There’s a bakery in my town that creates the most exquisite French pastry that I would swear it is the best bakery in Japan. Except those words would start a firestorm from people all over Japan claiming their local bakery is the best in Japan. Why? The Japanese have taken hold of this French cuisine and spent decades honing it to perfection, so now there are literally thousands of wonderful pastry shops. The Isetan flagship store in Tokyo has no less than 30 patisseries in its basement food level alone. So if you come to Japan, you must have a croissant.
