Though it is not uncommon to see a person wearing kimono in modern Japan, there is a definite downward trend in kimono as fashion. The price of this trend is steep, with many artisans and companies involved in the kimono making process shuttering businesses which have been in their families for centuries. The only way to save the kimono industry is to make kimono appeal to the younger generation. Some fashion shows have revealed some brash designs, such as this ensemble for men with denim hakama (kimono pants) and Doc Martins. It remains to be seen if kimono will be embraced by youth as it was in the past.
