In a country where domestic agriculture is such a critical industry, there have been surprisingly few Farmers Markets in Japan. Recently, momentum is gaining for supporting sustainable agriculture and locally grown products, and Farmers Markets are a wonderful by-product of the overall movement. In the heart of Tokyo, United Nations University in Aoyama hosts a weekly Farmers Market on Saturdays. At least 40 stalls of vendors participate with some events focused on specific types of food like the super popular local coffee industry. the UNU market is a great place to buy organic and locally sourced food and to meet people who are positively affecting the food culture of Japan.
